Could it Happen
Earlier today I saw one of the many wrestling podcasts on Youtube and this guy answered a user asked question regarding the thought of WWE/THQ maybe doing a WCW or ECW video game. Since i thought it is an interesting topic i figured i would share my opinion on it right now. Many TV & Dirtsheet writers over the past couple of years have refered to one of these companies as damaged goods because of how it went out. I will tell you which one in a second but first i want to say some positives and negatives in doing something like this. It would be a game with only WCW or ECW guys from a specific era No WWE guys from now or then cause that would defeat the purpose of the game. The problem with a WCW game is some people look at the company as damaged goods because of how it was run in the past. Also it would be difficult to duplicate the depth that the talent roster had in the company at any given point an time. Because their would leave to many people out of the game or have to many in the game. Its like where do you draw the line with the talent roster & stables that you would include when is it to many people. It would also be difficult to make some of the WCW trademark matches possible in the game like War-Games & World War 3 Battle Royal. It would be hard because those are matches that have never been in games before even in the WCW games they werent there.
Now the other possiblity would be ECW back in the 90's they were the alternative to the big companies. They baiscally were the CZW of now but with a lot less botches during the matches & produced more big names. They were doing crazy stuff way before the WWE thought of any of it & it was working for them in every way. They had Dreamer, Raven, RVD, Storm, Lynn, Taz, Sabu, Sandman, Bigelow, Candido, Douglas, etc. As opposed to the large WCW roster the ECW roster was never super large & that could benefit them cause you put a lot more people on the game then you would in the other way. But also since WWE is PG now I couldnt see the games coming out with an M rating like the Original ECW games did because of the WWE. But also if this is just a THQ project with now chance of publicty for the WWE then maybe they could make it any rating they chose but i highly doubt that would happen.
That reasoning is why i think the WCW would be better because it doesnt matter the rating as WCW was never really to edgy. But like i said before since thats not the problem they can focus on the other problems the who to include & who to include. Also how to get the WCW matches into the game and make them look good.
